The enemy respawns existed in Baldur's Gate since the first release in 1998, it's not a new feature. E.g. Firewine Bridge dungeon and gnoll stronghold were particularly known for frequent respawns as soon as player characters were out of sight. Do enemies respawn the forest? In the caves no.
